Womb Yoga: Embody The Wisdom Of Seasons And Cycles

Embrace your inner seasons and honour your feminine power with this four-week in-person course.

Date: 19/02/25 – 12/03/25
Time: Wednedays 18:30-20:30
Where: Neighbourhuud, Hove & Online

This course will help you overcome the overwhelm of today’s fast-paced world…

…and settle into a deeper knowing of what you need as a woman to thrive.

Through fluid movements, heart opening mantras, purifying breathwork and intentional mudras, you will reconnect with the power of your feminine energy and how this emerges through menstruation and ovulation, and the different stages of womanhood.

You will finish the course having come back into loving relationship with your body, particularly your reproductive organs, and having integrated new practices that honour all that you are, in whatever season of life you are in.

Many women struggle with menstrual and pelvic discomfort, but haven’t found a fitness or yoga class which addresses this.

Perhaps you struggle with emotional or physical pain in your menstrual cycle.

Or you have other imbalances or difficulties related to your experience as a woman that you feel need more love and attention.

You may have tried yoga before, but have not found a class that holds women’s experiences with care and respect.

Maybe you are longing for a space to fully explore your cycle and all the feminine wisdom in your body…

…a space where you can trust your own inner goddess or guru.

“Gemma is really knowledgeable of womb wellness and shares with passion and empathy for all women. I found her teaching style very friendly and informative. Would absolutely recommend.”

– Claire Porter

Much in our society tells us not to share our female experiences…

Societal conditioning or messaging from peers, family or workplace might suggest that women don’t need to act or respond differently just because of where they are at in their cycle, or time in life.

Many of us have internalised this false narrative, leading us to ignore what our body - and our womb - is telling us. Which usually leads to energy and emotions remaining stuck - often in the pelvis.

To make things worse, some yoga spaces don’t feel like a safe space to share these experiences either…

Leaving women often feeling alone, like there’s something ‘wrong’ with them, and disconnected from their bodies and from other women.

I am here to offer an alternative way of practising yoga, that connects you to the divine force within you and with other women on the path of healing and empowerment.

This is what led me here….

I have practised many forms of yoga over decades, but often felt I couldn’t fully express my needs as a menstruating woman in class. This in spite of the majority of people in class being women!

My original teacher training was in kundalini yoga, and for many years I have been practising and teaching this yoga because I love the uplifting, elevating experience it brings. It is kundalini yoga which gave me my first ‘healing crisis’ in my womb space: an unravelling and releasing of traumas that had arisen in my sexual body through unwanted sexual encounters, miscarriage and relationships where I felt unsafe, or where I couldn’t fully be myself.

This all happened at the time of a huge crisis in the kundalini yoga world, with multiple reports of sexual abuse by Yogi Bhajan and other leaders in this practice. The dismissal and denial of so many women’s voices, and the spiritual bypassing that came with it, led me to consider how we can make yoga a safer, more joyful practice where women feel fully seen and heard.

This is what has led me to practise menstrual cycle awareness and womb yoga for the last 5 years and complete the Yoni Shakti therapy training with my teacher Uma Dinsmore-Tuli in March 2024.

This has gifted me the art of cycliteracy: understanding the power of women’s cycles and how they can be a force for good, no matter what stage of life we are in.

Central to this form of yoga is the power of sanghat - the circle, or community - and how this can be created through yoga.

As I enter the gateway of perimenopause, these teachings have been essential to my journey of greater care and compassion towards my body and my menstrual cycle, and has without a doubt made my periods much easier!

I now offer womb yoga, integrating aspects of kundalini yoga, as a beautiful method of women’s empowerment; for balancing our masculine and feminine energies, for rooting ourselves into Mother Earth as well as elevating us into the cosmos, and for healing the pain and discomfort felt in female bodies.

I am also a facilitator of healing circles and support groups for charity workers, activists and humanitarians, and have published a book on ending burnout culture in the aid sector. You can find out more about this work here.

“I connected deeply with Gemma’s teachings and followed her recommendation to do the practice for 40 days to fully embody it. On completion of this I feel much more integrated with these practices.”

Womb Yoga: Embody The Wisdom Of Seasons and Cycles
is a four-week course to heal and empower your feminine essence and feel more in tune with your cycle.

  • Feel more connected to your source: the wisdom contained within your womb space

  • Feel more compassion towards yourself through opening the heart and embracing the power of rest

  • Feel more confident in what your body needs in different stages of your menstrual cycle and journey of womanhood

  • Feel stronger in your ‘yes’ and your ‘no’, in your yoga practice and in your life

  • Fully embracing your authentic voice and extraordinary body

  • Feel more in tune with your intuitive wisdom, your inner goddess or guru in supporting your wellbeing

  • Feel more supported by other women treading a similar path of cyclical living

  • Feel more supported by Mother Nature and the wisdom of the seasons

Here’s how it works…

In this 4 week course, each session will be structured according to the seasons in nature, which mirror the seasons in our life.

We will start each session sitting in circle, to share where we are in our season or our cycle. You have full permission to share, but also full permission not to. The experience of sitting in circle is always powerful and very healing, promoting deeper connection and belonging among other women.

In addition you will receive:

  • Recordings of some of the key practices from each session for you to try at home, and a pre-recorded yoga nidra

  • A 30 minute 1-2-1 phone consultation if you are in need of extra support during the course

  • A list of recommended books and resources for you to carry on your journey of womb yoga

Week 1: Winter

We will explore how winter shows up in our cycle at menstruation, and in other aspects of our life such as menopause. There will be lots of time for restorative postures and gentle movements and meditation to ease discomfort in the body, and gently awaken your inner guidance that is so potent in this season.

Week 2: Spring

This is the session for bringing balance back into the body after the bleed or after an introspective phase.

Expect practices to restore energy to the pelvic organs, and which call in that which we desire.

Week 3: Summer

This is the season to be out in the world, connecting with others and shining your light! It is also often the time of ovulation. Expect practices that ignite your inner fire, strengthen your creative expression and allow the utmost fluidity and lusciousness in your body.

Week 4: Autumn

In this session we will use movement and voice medicine to allow us to release difficult emotions, and any stuck energy in our reproductive organs. This will allow for greater female healing where needed, and for a healthier menstruation.

Here’s an example of a key Womb Yoga practice…

We connect our heart and womb to the earth and skies with mudra and intention so we feel grounded and supported.

Your questions answered…

  • Date: 19/02/25 – 12/03/25
    Time: x4 Wednesdays 18:30-20:30
Where: Neighbourhuud, Hove & online for your pre-recorded practices.

  • This course is for you if you have grown up in a female body with a womb and/or at any stage in your life have experienced a reproductive cycle and would like to reconnect with it. Do get in touch if you want to discuss further.

  • This course is for women at any stage in their life cycle, including post-menopause. The practices can still be used and enjoyed regardless of whether you still have periods, provided you are interested in connecting with your womb space and reproductive organs.

  • You are very welcome to join this course. It will not do you any harm and has many benefits in supporting a more healthy functioning of the pelvic organs, which allow for easier and less painful menstruation. The practices can also help with alleviating mood swings and other pre-menstrual symptoms.

  • You’ll have access to the key practices so you can catch up at home. You can also book a 1-2-1 session with me at an additional cost.

  • Absolutely - this course includes practices that can support greater vitality in the reproductive organs and there are examples of women successfully conceiving after committing to these practices.

  • This course includes movement and breathwork that may place too much of a strain on your body at this very important portal into new life. It is therefore recommended that you seek a pregnancy yoga class instead.

  • Yes! There will be specific practices that will nourish you and support you in your recovery. Some practices, such as certain breathwork, may be too intense but adjustments can be easily made. Please let the teacher know in advance that you have recently given birth.

  • No, I leave you to feel into your inner experience and let you be the guide as to what your body needs. I will simply be giving prompts and suggesting adjustments that can suppor you in your practice.

  • The structure of the course is this way so you can become familiar with cyclical living and the ways it can benefit you. You may only want to do part of the course because that is when it is aligned with your cycle, or because you prefer one type of practice or season to another. I understand this, as a naturally fiery, active person (I’m a Sagittarius) who in the past shunned slower, more restorative yoga. Let me assure you that all of what I share with you will be relevant no matter where you are in your cycle, or what season you lean into more. They will support you in maintaining healthy energy levels at any time, and can easily be used at home once you have learned them in class.

  • You’ll also have the support of the sharing circles and WhatsApp group for issues which feel appropriate to share with the group. For more personal challenges, I offer one 30-minute consultation during the course at no additional charge. Please note, this is not a substitute for psychotherapy.
